Department Stores

We have designed department stores for many years for the John Lewis Partnership and other chains. These include John Lewis, Oxford Street and Peter Jones, Sloane Square, for both of which we were the original structural engineers and where we have returned on a number of occasions to make modifications as retailing fashions change.

More recently, John Lewis at Cheadle was an edge of town store regarded as a flagship model for modern department stores.

John Lewis, Cheadle

New department store for John Lewis, part of a joint development with Sainsburys in Cheadle on the outskirts of Manchester. It was a greenfield development with the three storey John Lewis building including a 6,400m2 ( 68,900ft2) by 6m deep basement. The link block between John Lewis and Sainsburys includes a coffee shop and restaurant looking out through an 11m tall structural glass wall.
