Waitrose, Maidenhead

Your description here

Waitrose wished to increase the size of their 1980s store at Maidenhead. The Their brief was to include :-

  • increasing the existing 15,000 sq.ft. supermarket by an additional 10,000 sq.ft by extending to both to the west and east of the store..
  • providing residential accommodation over the west extension with 12 flats over three floors
  • increasing the car parking by adding an additional deck over the ground level car park

The east extension required the reloaction of all the back of house faclilities and comprises a single storey retail extension, new unloading bay and service yard and a new service lift tower. Due to poor ground associated with the nearby river, all foundations are piled with CFA piles

The west extension also has piled foundations and is of steel framed construction up to first floor transfer slab level with a three storey residential timber framed structure over

A new single decked car park was constructed within the confines of the existing surface level car park to provide an additional 48 parking spaces

The car park by Bourne Parking provides an additional 48 spaces and is steel framed with foundations designed by HPM supported on screw piles. Screw piles were chosen for the car park so as to minimise the disruption to the operation of the existing car park and to maintain the maximum number of spaces available to the branch while the new deck was built.
